About Artful

Welcome to Artful, a quarterly magazine and blog created for curious minds who crave a peaceful escape.

Each issue of Artful Magazine is a beautifully curated journey into art, craft, history and culture. It’s my way of sharing a curiosity and fascination with art and history with likeminded people - and I’d love for you to be one of them.

If you enjoy wandering through old libraries, getting lost in art shops stacked high with rows of paints and brushes, or discovering the stories behind the things people make, you’ll feel right at home here.

Artful Magazine invites you to slow down, switch off the digital noise, and enjoy reading from the page. Think of it as opening a window into another world, one that leaves you refreshed, inspired and full of new ideas and information.

The quarterly magazine was started by me, Mary Penman, in 2025 after I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Art History and Renaissance Culture at the Warburg Institue in London.

Coupled with an earlier degree in Modern Languages from Oxford, and several part-time courses in art and art history (I really enjoyed this OUDCE one), a love of research and writing, and several years’ experience as a teacher, I’m able to approach art history in an enthusiastic, but open-minded and grounded way, making Artful Magazine an accessible and engaging publication which can be enjoyed by all.

I’d love you to enter your email below to receive email updates and previews of upcoming issues.
